SETE CIDADES

SETE CIDADES

Sete Cidades is rich in lake filled craters. Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde are concidered one of Portugals 7 natural wonders. There will be a number of stops during this journey including view points to beautiful mountains, coastline, crater lakes and the village of Sete Cidades. A coffee break next to the beautiful blue lake and a cultural treat at the 18th Centry Pineapple Plantation.

Lagoa do Fogo

Lagoa do Fogo

Lagoa do Fogo has the most amazing scene. Set in the central part of the island, high above the villages, in a protected natural reserve lies Fogo Lake. This lake is the highest above sea level in São Miguel and considered a sleeping volcano. An undisturbed landscape, clear waters, and important habitate for many birds. During this programmed excursion you will also have a chance to visit and swim in a natural hot water spring. Other stops including a 150year old ceramic factory in the town of Lagoa and a city walk in the second largest city of Ribeira Grande.

This journey starts in the south with viewpoints which overlook the vast ocean and picturesque Vila Franca do Campo. Continuing east we visit the Lake of Furnas, fumaroles, and mineral springs. Visit the highly recommended Botanical Garden of Terra Nostra and its beautiful thermal pool. Returning on the northcoast we visit the 18th century Tea Plantation and scenic northcoast viewpoints.

Starting from the panaramic Salto do Cavalo and visiting the quiant town of Povoação we reach the roots of discovery of the island. The heritage of São Miguel island started in this quiet town. After we climb up again and through the rugged mountains towards Nordeste.

This eastern area is filled with magnificent gardens, breathtaking viewpoints and the wide open ocean. We stop at Nordeste village befor heading towards the waterfalls of Ribeira dos Caldeirõe
